Moving a Bombardeta Cannon Underwater

A large, wrought-iron bombardeta found on the 16th century shipwreck known as the St. Johns Bahamas Wreck, had to be moved from its original position on the site to a staging are underneath the work boat. This would allow the 800-pound cannon to be lifted onboard by crane for transport to the conservation laboratory at the Mel Fisher Maritime Museum in Key West, Florida. This gun is an early example of shipboard artillery.
