Torpedoing and foundering of the Pernambuco (WWII)

 

On a voyage from Africa to Trinidad, the Pernambuco was torpedoed and lost off Guyana in approximately 400 meters of water.

She carried 6.000 tons of general African produce, including tin, antimony and chrome ores, as well as  2.000 tons of copper ingots for a today's value of approximately US$  22.000.00.

She also had some 45 kgs of platinum matte.
