Collision and foundering of the Ford (19th century)


The steamer Ford of 1.000 tons, from Dieppe to Newhaven, was lost in collision in the mid-channel with 255 passengers and 42 crew.

She foundered in less than an hour with a lot of specie on board belonging to rich passengers. All the luggage were also lost and several thousand pound sterling worth of jewels and valuable nicknacks of tourists.

No attempt will be done to raise her as she is lying too far from land and too deep.
