Fire and foundering of the Night (19th century)


On her way from Saint John to Boston, the Night, luxury steel ship of 4.400 tons, sprung a leak and caught fire 150 miles off Boston. 

The 500 passengers and 100 crew were all saved, but a sum of £ 10.000 in gold belonging to the British government was lost with her.
