Crossroads of Antiquity: Shipwrecks of the Albanian Coastal Survey
Crossroads of Antiquity: Shipwrecks of the Albanian Coastal Survey details the highly successful 2010 field season by RPM Nautical Foundation, the Albanian Institute of Archaeology, and the Albanian National Trust. The organizations are in the middle of a multiyear collaboration surveying the entire Albanian coast for submerged cultural resources. This film explains the region's rich history, illustrated by the UNESCO world heritage site of Butrint, and the ongoing archaeological discoveries, particularly a fourth century AD shipwreck. Filmed with a 1974 Eumig Nautica on Super8 film despite being on a project utilizing cutting edge underwater survey equipment, the rough film footage captures the contradictions of Albania, a modern country with an identity rooted in its history as the crossroads of antiquity. Film by Peter Campbell, narrated by Hale Sostock, music by Jason Shaw (audionautix.com), 6.15 run time.
