Researches are under way on the remains of the cargo NIOBE of 1.684 tons, from the French Société Navale Caennaise, sunk in 1940 by the Luftwaffe off Ouistreham, Normandy, with 800 refugees on board coming from Le Havre and loaded with 800 tons of ammunitions. It is said that the cargo came from Rotterdam where she had been boarded by an unknown number of diamond merchants carrying hand-cases loaded with gems.
