Lost Treasures of the Seven Seas

Travel Review

Since I started to search for shipwrecks and underwater treasures, there is one destination which will always stay deep in my heart : The magic and beautiful Island of Mauritius.

This exclusive destination was part of my early projects to conduct an archaeological research and retrieve the underwater treasures of the pirate ship "Speaker", commanded by the English Captain John Bowen. His ship had been lost in 1702, in a few meters of water on the reefs very close to the hotel
Le Touessrok Mauritius.

Our team spent several months in this paradise environment, enjoying a wonderful time after a hard day work underwater on the tiny Island of "Iles aux Cerfs", belonging to the Touessrok Hotel and set with the most exotic bar and restaurant facilities.

We also spent some time on the North East coast on another "treasure wreck" previously salvaged, the famous "Saint Geran" on which Paul & Virginie, the French Romeo & Juliet lost their lives.

An author of fiction, Bernardin de St-Pierre, took the last moments of the ship, in 1744, as the setting for this tragic love story in which a fair maiden, Virginie, is travelling on the "Saint Geran" when it founders and her lover Paul swims to the wreck to save her. Virginie is too modest to take off her clothes and swim to safety. She drowns, and Paul dies soon after of a broken heart.

Later, when I came back on holiday for my own pleasure I spend a wonderful time at the luxurious hotel Le Saint Geran Mauritius, using Only Exclusive Travel, a UK travel agent who specialises in organising Luxury Holidays to exotic or unusual locations.
