chippy1 has posted a question :

Hello, i am trying to find out if anyone knows where i need to go to acquire anti submarine warfare charts relating to the waters around Antigua and Barbuda. I have tried the normal channels in the US but get nowhere. My interest derives from an episode of Sea Hunters on Discovery where they were trying to pinpoint the site of the Andrea Gail and used these maps of the seabed to start from, the charts are maps of magnetic anomolies on the seabed recorded by the US Navy using magnetometers during the cold war. Any suggestions ?

I am also researching several Royal Navy losses around Antigua during the hurricane of 1780, specifically 2 sloops of war and a prize ship they were escorting when the hurricane struck in October 1780 and sank all 3 any info ?

Hi Oldman,Who conducted the survey? i am looking for the 2 sloops and prize sloop they were escorting near English Harbour when the storm sank them. Also i would be interested in the wrecks you know of to see if i have them in my research papers and maps.

chippy1,
I have to go back and check the research and maps with coordinates, but if memory serves me right. There were 3 ships around English Harbor, one just a little south of there, two off the East coast of the Island and one down in the bay by Nelson's boat yard

Oldman, i have several references to wrecks in the areas you describe, who did the survey and can i get a copy of it? Would be very interested in cross referencing your details with mine. Why were you interested in Antigua?

chippy1, I am interested because of the Spanish Wreck with treasure that is sunk off of Barbuda ( A posession of Antigua )
and the 2 privateers in Antigua.
I paid a small fortune for the research and wreck locations from Mel Fisher over 20 years ago.
If you want the location of 1 of the English Wrecks. I have no problem doing that.

Oldman, i have lived over here for 22 years ,10 of those on Barbuda where i met Fisher and his group several times and helped with some of their endeavours. If the wreck you are interested in is the Santiago de Cullerin, that was salvaged long ago, another spaniard was wrecked near Fishing Creek and Cobb reef pre 1695 this was also salvaged. The wrecks in English Harbour were hulks or lost during hurricanes and salvaged, HMS Kinsale and HMS Melampus being a couple of them. There were a number of privateers lost around Antigua and Barbuda of different nationalities of which i have a list and some locations. Perhaps we could discuss this further.
