The Beast of Loch Ness

Welcome to the companion Web site to "The Beast of Loch Ness," originally broadcast on January 12, 1999. The film follows a three-week expedition that used state-of-the-art sonar and sensitive underwater cameras in an attempt to track down and identify the elusive creature. Here's what you'll find online:
  • Fantastic Creatures
    There are countless examples of real animals once thought to be nonexistent. Explore the myths and legends behind the discoveries of animals such as Africa's okapi, the Arctic's narwhal, and Madagascar's elephant bird.

  • Birth of a Legend
    For at least 1,500 years a legend has held sway in the Scottish Highlands that Loch Ness is home to a mysterious aquatic animal. Find out how this legend got its start, and how other possible sightings have kept the legend alive.

  • Eyewitness Accounts
